The start of the EPR nuclear reactor built by the consortium Areva-Siemens in Finland has been postponed and will intervene only in 2013, with normal, expected in the second half of 2013, announced Friday the Finnish electricity TVO .
Begun in September 2005, the Olkiluoto site in south-western Finland, was originally scheduled to end in April 2009. But completion has been postponed to at least five successive occasions. The final schedule provided by Areva in its TVO reported previously to start late 2012.
"The consortium Areva-Siemens, which built the reactor, Olkiluoto 3 in a fixed price contract and turnkey for TVO, reported that most of the work would be completed in 2012"says the Finnish group said in a statement. "Supplier indicates that the commissioning will take eight months, meaning that normal operation will begin in the second half of 2013 "says TVO.
The third generation reactor at Olkiluoto is the first reactor of this type starts in the world with that of Flamanville, in the Channel, whose commercial exploitation is also planned in 2013, and both of Taishan, China , planned to begin in 2013 and 2014.
